Lead8 participated in the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Asia Pacific Summit 2019 in Shanghai this month.
Co Founder and Executive Director Simon Chua presented on the opening day of the event with a pop-up talk on sustainability – ‘City in a City: Shanghai’s New Megacity’. Simon is currently leading the design of two major transport-led, mixed-use developments in Shanghai, International Trade City and TODTOWN, totaling more than two million sqm of development and scheduled from completion in 2020 and 2022.
‘Delivering a Sustainable Future’ was the theme for this year’s summit set within the context of China with Shanghai playing host to the event. China’s economic powerhouse is a showcase for the nation’s dynamic real estate markets – historic riverside buildings rub shoulders with spectacular modern high-rises, and the ever-changing urban landscape being the perfect complement to the city’s frenetic, non-stop lifestyle.
With the Chinese economy being impacted by trade war tensions and banks restricting access to new credit for real estate purposes, businesses are now prioritising stability over new growth. The conference explored what steps can be taken to ensure businesses are positioned both to navigate opportunities arising from the changing environment and to leverage upside potential once growth resumes.
The signature real estate event attracts more than 700 decision makers from across Asia Pacific beyond with the aim of sharing best practice on sustaining and creating thriving communities worldwide.
